SATA, the lift company that has been managing the Les 2 Alpes lift system since December 2020, keeps improving the ski area to improve the access, the comfort and the flow for skiers across the area.
What's new for winter 2023 in Les 2 Alpes
Redevelopment of the Vallée Blanche site with the replacement of the Vallée Blanche chairlift by a telemix lift to the summit at 2,100 metres, and the Super Venosc gondola lift (installed in 2022): a new, more comfortable, faster service that carries twice as many passengers (skiers, pedestrians and beginners).
A new green run has also been created between Vallée Blanche and Pied-Moutet to make this nearby, low-altitude (2,100 to 1,600 metres) sector accessible to all.
The snow front, which is the departure point for all skiers, is undergoing a complete redevelopment programme that started in 2021, and which is due to finish in 2024. Reorganising the lower slopes is essential to help spread out the flow of skiers close to the resort’s accommodation, and to enhance ski-in-ski-out possibilities. Winter 2022 saw the redevelopment of the Vikings sector, with a new button lift and a magic carpet (south-facing area at the foot of the slopes). For winter 2023, a magic carpet and a button lift will be installed on the Champamé sector (at the resort entrance, north-facing) to provide an easier connection between Les 2 Alpes 1800, and the rest of the resort, for both pedestrians and skiers.
Work has started on the installation of a 3S gondola lift in the aim of replacing the Jandri Express gondola lift. It’s the only ski lift of its kind in France, explains Fabrice Boutet, SATA Group (Alpe d’Huez, Les 2 Alpes and La Grave ski area) director. More comfortable, this new gondola will provide greater reliability in terms of the weather, taking passengers from the resort to the summits at 3,200 metres (15min instead of 40 min today), with an intermediary station at 2,600 metres. It will transport 3 times as many passengers as the current gondola lift, totalling a little over 4,000 an hour, compared to 1,200 today! It will comprise just 7 pylons, instead of the 15 currently in place, reducing visual pollution. The 1st section of the 3S redevelopment is envisaged to finish in December 2024, and the entire 3S project, between the resort and the sector at 3,200 metres, should be finished by December 2025. A 3S to modernise, improve passenger flow, and make it possible to reach altitudes of more than 3,000 metres, whatever the weather!
